Converging Paradigm

Due to the arising proposals and analysis from the European Union and from the United States of America, 'Convergence' intends to be the paradigm in Science that this first half of the 20th-Century will undertake.

Embedded in the fusion and knowledge exchanges between the most relevant scientific disciplines from today: Nanotechnology, Molecular Biology, Information Technology and the Neuroscience of Cognitive processes (NBIC), Converging Technologies promote a new thought of perspective radically different to previous multidisciplinary initiatives.

Traditional fields of application – such as Biology or Neuroscience – do become through convergence new tools indistinguishably cross-borders between Sciences, and its challenge is the ultimate application: Mankind.

Challenges in NBIC Technology Convergence

There is a chief necessity to facilitate globally the new trends and discoveries, specially in Latin-American, where relatively limited funding and sources increases the need to focus the efforts from Science correctly and tactically in order to secure a realistic position at academic and market level. It is thus specially important in the task to attract international sources of financing.

A significant element towards technological convergence reaching Mankind is the achievement of a seamless communication between entities and disciplines either from biological or artificial origins. This new vision allows us to foresee amongst others achievements such as direct interfaces brain-machine, synthesis and transplant of artificial organs, prosthesis for cognitive processing and improvement of human senses' abilities.
